UPERDFI General Members Meeting held; Emilio Tumbocon Elected as New President

Members of the UP Engineering Research and Development Foundation, Inc. (UPERDFI) were in full force as they attended the general members meeting last May 17, Wednesday, at the NEC Executive Board Room.  In attendance were three former and current cabinet secretaries—former DPWH Secretary Rogelio ‘Babess Singson, former DOST Secretary Estrella Alabastro, and current DOST Secretary Fortunato “Ka Boy” dela Peña.  During the meeting, the Chairman of the Board, Pete Maniego was re-elected while Emilio “Lilit” Tumbocon was elected as the new President, replacing Alfonso “Tito” Aliga.  The Board created a new position, Executive Director, and appointed Tito Aliga as the first Executive Director. He also takes over the concurrent position of Aura Matias as Corporate Secretary, while former Dean Matias was re-elected at UPERDFI Treasurer.  Chato Calderon was re-elected as Vice President, while Dean Rizalinda de Leon was appointed VP for Operations.

The UPD College of Engineering community is proud to announce that two of our students, Mr.Dave Ramos and Mr. Williard Joshua Jose, will receive the “2017 Gawad Tsanselor Para sa Natatanging Mag-aaral” award!

The Gawad Tsanselor Para sa Natatanging Mag-Aaral is the highest, most prestigious University award given to students who have attained a high level of academic accomplishment, demonstrated good leadership and exemplified ‘honor and excellence in the service of the people’.

  • UP Students Win International Industrial Engineering Competition in Indonesia

    Four UP students win an international industrial engineering competition held in Bandung, Indonesia last January 9 to 17. The team is composed of (from L-R) James Renier Domingo, Daniel Roi Agustin, Arizza Ann Nocum, and Dominic Aily Ecat. They are graduating students of the Department of Industrial Engineering Operations Research of the University of the Philippines-Diliman. They are guided by their coach Simon Lorenzo (rightmost).

    UPCOE Dean Rizalinda De Leon and NOAH Project Leader Dr. Enrico Paringit received the the Gregorio Y. Zara Award for applied science research and David M. Consunji Award, respectively from the Philippine Association for the Advancement of Science and Technology (Philaast).

    “De Leon, dean of the University of the Philippines College of Engineering, was recognized for her innovative research on energy fuels and thermal systems that her current study hopes could produce bioethanol from raw materials like rice straw and grass”.

    “Paringit was cited for his two decades of research and development work in utilizing spatial technologies in various applications such as resource management, environmental monitoring and hazard assessment.”
