The University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD) signed a three-year memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), a National University in Indonesia, on September 28, 2018 at the Office of the Chancellor in Quezon Hall, UP Diliman.
UPD was represented by Chancellor Prof. Michael L. Tan, while the Prof. Ir. Panut Mulyono represented UGM as their rector. The MOU aims to consolidate and develop academic cooperation and promote mutual understanding between the two universities.
UPD, through the UP College of Engineering and College of Science, and UGM agreed to develop and implement academic activities such as exchange of faculty, researchers and staff; exchange of students; collaborative research projects; lectures and symposia; exchange of academic information and materials; and other activities as future development warrant their discussion.
Present at the MOU signing were UP College of Engineering Dean Dr. Rizalinda L. De Leon; Dr. Khasani, faculty member from UGM; Dr. Indra Perdana, Manager of International Affairs in UGM; Mr. Agus Buana and Mr. Hidayat Zakaria from the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in the Republic of Philippines.

The Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) initiatives of the UP College of Engineering (UP COE) was presented during the Katatagan Fair 2018 held at the University of the Philippines Quezon Hall Amphitheatre last September 10, 2018.
Dr. Nathaniel Diola, Associate Dean for Administration, presented the DRRM efforts and initiatives of the College to the audience which is mostly students. He mentioned that as one of the biggest Colleges in the University and as a public service institution, UP COE is committed in promoting DRRM to our students, faculty, staff and other stakeholders. He cited that the College’s DRRM effort is primarily aligned in three aspects, namely capacity building, extension service, and education. He highlighted his presentation with a short video showcasing the different DRRM programs and activities hosted by the college.
Katatagan Fair is a one-day event that features the campus’ resilience to disasters. It aims to educate and raise awareness on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management programs through talks, presentations, music and booth exhibits.

This is to cordially invite you and your students to the lecture titled “Importance of Wind Tunnel Testing For Atmospheric Environments in Southeast Asia” to be delivered by Prof. Nobumasa Sekishita from Toyohashi University of Technology, Japan. The lecture is part of our Engineering Forum Series: Frontiers in Engineering and Innovation 2018. It will be delivered on Wednesday, 26 Sep. 2018, 10AM at the Maynilad Room.
Prof. Sekishita was our Distinguished Visiting Professor last year who delivered his talk on his research studies on wind tunnel and open channel and dispersed flows in the ERDT Conference. This year, he had just visited USC and MSU IIT for setting up of wind tunnels there and he will be lecturing on his recent progress on wind tunnel testing here in UPD as part of his ERDT professorial visit. He will also present his research on the dynamics of fish swimming in the upcoming co-located ERDT Conference and AUN/SEED-Net Regional Conference this Sep. 27-28.
